Cereal Box Project
The Cereal Box Project has been a staple in our classroom for nearly a decade. This 25 page guide will provide a blueprint for you to successfully create a fun, hands on activity that students will love. We use this as a wrap up project for our Geometry Unit, but we incorporate many other topics such as unit rates and percentages.
Advantages of the Cereal Box Project:
* Flexibility - Each teacher can customize this project to meet the specific needs of your class.
*Differentiate - This project makes it easy to differentiate between students. By tweaking the types of shapes used, a teacher can challenge a stronger student while at the same time allowing a struggling student a greater chance for success. The nice thing is that none of the student even realize the project has been modified.
* Hands On - Like most projects, the Cereal Box Project allows students to physically build the project. The actual act of measuring, cutting and taping helps the students develop a deeper understanding of the connection between the numbers and the physical object.
* Creativity - The Cereal Box Project gives students the opportunity to use their creativity when designing this project. We are always amazed at the thought process of students.
* Enjoyment - Cereal boxes are usually a reflection of the student's interest (video games, food, sports, etc.). As a result the students tend to take more pride and put more effort into this project.
